I never gave attention to the visually impaired people, like ya i would surly go and help them if required but never did i think about going deep into it, until i started working on it. Our classes started with making visiting cards for them. As a kid i always thought that writing in braille was about making dots along the alphabet. As i grew up i realized that its a proper language and its technical. But still i never gave attention to it.
The first day of my course i was asked to make a visiting card for the visually impaired and thats when i actually read about the rules and the methods. And i thought it would be damn easy making those dots, but then when i actually started working it wasn't that easy.
We had discussions on Dark and Light and realized that fact that, ' for the existence of light dark is as important. The entire concept of Dark and Night is damn interesting you can talk about it for hours and still land up on a no conclusion. And thats what keeps me hooked up to it.
Then we were asked to make T-shirts for the visually impaired. I made *6 pack abbs* on a blah T-shirt. I wanted the person who wore it to feel excited about it and actually show it to people saying, " look boss i got 6 packs don't you mess with me ". I thought my idea was the best but then when i saw others i realized there is more i can do to this T-shirt.
We were also blind folded once and made to walk in the hall, it was fun but then it was actually difficult. I BANGED INTO A WALL. We were also asked to make a poster on the same topic.
We were asked to go out in groups and talk to people about issues related. We started and realized that no one would ever hurt some one in need, no matter who ever it is be it a blind. Every one was sympathetic towards them. They did whatever they could do for them, from giving discounts to helping them cross a road. We made presentations about this. We also made a video in an ATM.
Then we were given an assignment to make the campus Blind friendly which actually was are main project. Me along with Romik and Ali took up the project related to making the lifts blind friendly. Ramps are made, braille is put all over work is almost done but there is still more to be done. you know while doing this i actually felt i haven't done anything worth it. And this one question always pops out , will a random blind person ever walk into Srishti and make use of what we did ?? and i'm damn sure someone someday surly would. The day i see someone walking in and taking help of what i did, thats the day i will feel proud about what i did.
Over this period i realized that they don't want us to be sympathetic towards them they just want to be treated equally. Yes, they have one sensory organ not working properly but then they others strengthen themselves.
