My Reflection- Ishani Ghose

My Reflection:
I don't think I had ever paid too much attention to the visually impaired until I got to do  this course ( Space and Place A ) . I was completely oblivious to the fact there were people who couldn't see and struggled to live and cope with daily life while I complained about my petty problems and issues. After looking at different places such as public places, institutions and the transportation facilities provided by the state , I was quite taken aback by the fact that neither of these huge sectors had any policies or adequate help for the blind. The few policies that are available do not equip a blind person to be independent which I feel is a major problem. In class, we did a few activities such as making visiting cards in braille for the visually impaired, we did some work on t-shirts and the aim of that was to make it visually appealing to those who can see and use different textures so that the people who can`t see and be able to feel it. While working on these activities, I realized how fortunate I was to be have all my senses in working condition. Another activity we did was to try and make Srishti N3 campus blind friendly. This activity was quite challenging and pushed us to really think of practical solutions and changes that we needed to make. Overall I think that society needs to start making accommodations for the disabled people and enable them to live independently. I find myself a lot more aware of what life could be like for these people and I feel like I have a lot less to complain about.
